Gadar 2' does not save the credit of 'Gadar

The only goal behind making a 'sequel' of a film is to make money. Sold the emotion of the old film, accumulated money. 'Why did Katappa kill Baahubali?' In response to this question, 'Baahubali 2' rocked the box office. Now there is a trend of sequels/prequels. Where has the wind of the sequel not touched Nepali filmmakers? 'Kabaddi', 'Chakka Panja' and 'Nai Nabhannu L' are recent examples. 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2', which have been on display since last Friday, are also standing on this ground.

Gadar 2, Blockbuster,Gadar

First, talk about 'Gadar 2'. The sequel to the 22-year-old blockbuster 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' has now started heating up the Indian box office again. A love story that sprouted between the India-Pakistan divide, a truck driver with the power to defeat the enemy by uprooting a hand pump. A horrible father trying to separate two lovers. The audience not only watched 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' but also experienced it with similar feelings. Director Anil Sharma made 'Gadar 2' to sell that feeling. However, he failed to connect the audience with the same feeling in the sequel. Poor screenplay and direction prevented the film from becoming a worthwhile sequel.

The sequel begins where the story of 'Gadar' ended. In the climax of the film, Tara Singh (Sunny Deval) kills the Pakistani battalion and returns Sakina (Amisa Patel) and her son to Hindustan. Major Hamid Iqbal of Pakistan wants to take revenge against Tara Singh for the same battalion. Tara, who is having fun with his wife Sakina and son Charanjit aka Jite, is unaware of the revenge. One day while delivering bombs/ammunition to the battlefield, Tara goes missing along with 6 other soldiers. Meanwhile, news comes that Hamid has captured a Hindustani soldier in Pakistan. If you go to Pakistan in search of your father, you will find the enemy. The story of Tara, who returned to Pakistan to save her son, is shown in 'Gadar 2'. Especially the story of the sequel is amazing.

However, the weak screenplay does not allow the audience to move along with the characters of the film. In particular, the story of the film is about the son who goes to find his father and the father who stands up to face the enemy to save the same son. However, time has been spent on showing Tara and Sakina's love before the interval. The son's relationship with Sakina and Tara has been rushed. If the relationship between father and son does not become trustworthy in the beginning, the audience will not be able to relate to these two. That's why after the interval, the song 'Kitne Dard Bhari Hey Teri Meri Prem Kahani' sung by Tara looking at her son does not touch the hearts of the audience.

The relationship with Jite's mother cannot be properly established. Jeet, who wanted to be an artist, suddenly changed how? The audience does not find the reason believable. The audience has to understand everything based on the scene itself. Especially if the visual language would have given that experience, the audience would have been attached to the story of 'Gadar 2'. The climax scene of the film is stretched so much that even after the scene that it is over, the action scene continues. Such weaknesses show that the story needs treatment. When trying to establish the relationship between father and son towards the climax scene, it is clear that the story has not caught the rhythm. If the relationship between these two was established beforehand, the audience could easily sympathize with the feelings of these two characters.

The film is not only full of weaknesses. There are some 'twists and turns' which keep the audience tied to the film for some time. Songs like 'Udja Kale...', 'Me Nikla...' add sweetness to the story. While searching for a father, a Pakistani girl falls in love with Muskan, Jeet. The love of Tara and Sakina is repeated with a smile and newness comes to the story. However, because the story cannot be presented visually, 'Gadar 2' becomes limited to the nostalgia of the prequel. The star of 'Hand Pump' lifts a big object this time, such a power hidden in an ordinary character is sure to add excitement to the audience. Sunny has again brought the unusual power of the star to life on the screen through acting. However, Sakina, who was fighting the enemy with a gun at that time, has been reduced to a weak character in 'Gadar 2', shedding tears and waiting for father and son. His character is given less space on the screen. Utkarsh Sharma's performance is average, while Simrat Kaur has managed to attract the attention of the audience with the role of Muskan. Amrish Puri's character is what makes Gadar 2 stand out. It has become common to show hostility towards Pakistan in Indian films. In a film based on the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, showing hostility towards Pakistanis is not a big issue. An attempt has been made to balance a Pakistani character by showing it positively.

Now let's enter OMG (O My God) which was released in 2012. The sequel of this film is 'OMG 2'. This film is not a real sequel in terms of story. OMG revolves around atheist Kanji Lalji Mehta's shop and then his case against God. Kanji's shop is destroyed in an earthquake. The company, on the other hand, blames God in the incident and pretends not to provide insurance. Kanji then sues God in court. 'OMG' is directed by Umesh Shukla. The film has presented business in the name of religion through Kanji. The story of the film, which starts with an atheist character, ends with the existence of God. Lord Krishna is shown helping Kanji in the film.

On the other hand, in 'OMG 2', Lord Shiva (Akshay Kumar) arrives on earth to help Kantisaran Mugdal (Pankaj Tripathi). One day Kanti's son is expelled from the school for doing an immoral act. Due to the lack of information/knowledge, Kanti realizes that his son has participated in the act unknowingly and considers himself responsible for the incident. After that, he files a case in the court demanding forgiveness and compensation from the people who sell herbs from schools, drug stores, etc. Now whether Kanti wins this case or not, you have to watch the film for that.

The story of a father's struggle for his son is not only shown in this film. However, it exposes the need for a sensitive subject like sex education. Presenting the situations faced by adolescents in the absence of sex education, the film sparks a debate on the issue that should be taught at the school level. However, the film has become weak when trying to make a message rather than reciting the story. In the film, such dialogues are spoken by the characters, which seem to be kept to convey a message to the audience rather than the need of the screenplay.

By satirizing the narrow mindedness of society and family, the film has also questioned the bodies that become insensitive to such a sensitive matter. Directed by Amit Rai, this film has some similar dialogues and plot as the prequel. Paresh Rawal gets paralyzed in 'OMG', whereas Kanti dies in an accident. Apart from the story of the film, there is not much novelty in other elements. Because of the easily predictable story, 'OMG' does not taste like a prequel. The strongest aspect of this film is the inclusion of sex education in the story. However, it is not credible that God should come to the world to explain the need for sex education. Pankaj Tripathi who played the role of Kanti is another strong point of the film. Akshay Kumar is perfect in the role of Shiva. Yami Gautam has proven herself in the role of an advocate.

This film, which covers the subject of sex education from the school level, has received an 'adult' certificate from the Indian censors. That's why Akshay recently satirized the censors and said, 'This film should be shown in all schools. This is the first adult film which is made for the adult audience. As Akshay said, it doesn't matter if 'OMG 2' is shown at school level.
